This International Roundtable on the Cultural and Educational
Functions of Public Service Broadcasting comes at a fortuitous time, as
the changing environment of broadcasting is on various agendas, from the
Council of Europe to the numerous national states grappling with the
challenges to their national communications systems; from the G7 and its
grand design for a global information highway to the burgeoning number
of non-governmental organizations active in the field of mass
communication. At the heart of these debates is the question of the
present and future status of public service broadcasting. |
