Before we proceed to examine the training needs for the application of communication technology in distance education in
India, it is necessary to describe the present scenario of distance education in the country and the existing status of the use of communication technology in education in general and distance education in particular. I have divided this paper into threeparts. In part one I have discussed the scenario of distance education in India. Part two discusses the application of Communication Technology in distance education. And, part three examines
