This paper investigates the effect of source language on translations using two
variants of a Korean translation corpus. The sentences are translations of a
bilingual travel corpus. The original corpus was compiled from Japanese-English
parallel sentences collected from more than 300 phrase books in order to build
a Japanese-English machine translation system mainly for Japanese traveling
abroad. The corpora used for this research consist of 324,616 Korean sentences.
Half of the Korean sentences (162,308 sentences: henceforth, KJ) were translated
from Japanese and the other half (henceforth, KE) have been translated from
English sentences which match the Japanese. |
