Title: | A web-based system for automating the assessment question setting and associated activities for primary school mathematics : part C | Authors: | Yap, Jun Xian | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering | Issue Date: | 2014 | Abstract: | To an increasing number of parents, the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) is seen as the most important examination for their children [1]. Hence, apart from sending their children to tuitions, parents have also relied heavily on assessment books in hope that it could provide their children with more practices and helps their children to attain higher grades in school. And together with the increase in the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in education, there has been an increase in the number of Online Assessment Systems over the years. Not only that an Online Assessment System is convenient, cost effective and environmental friendly, the use of ICT in an Online Assessment System could also raise educational quality [2]. However, most of the current Online Assessment Systems have some limitations in terms of the flexibility in setting up the questions and the ability to create an infinite number of question repertoires. Therefore, this project aims to develop a Web-Based Assessment System for Primary Six Mathematics that is capable of setting, generating and marking Mathematics questions. In addition, the author aims to introduce a new feature in generating graphics for the graphical questions which has not been implemented in the previous version of this project. The System was developed with JavaServer Pages (JSP), MySQL, Apache Tomcat and JFreeChart on the JavaEE (Java Enterprise Edition) platform. The completed System would enable students to work on the questions generated by the System and reinforce their understandings on the topics taught in schools. After a System Administrator has set a Mathematics question, students could use the System to generate an infinite number of question repertoires out from it. Furthermore, the System could also display graphics for graphical questions, mark the students’ work and provide standard solutions to the questions. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/61465 | Schools: | School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
