Title: | The political economy of China-Japan-Korea free trade agreement (CJK FTA): why China strives to realize CJK FTA even though it is a long shot | Authors: | Xu, Xiaolong | Keywords: | DRNTU::Business::International business::Free trade | Issue Date: | 2014 | Abstract: | Establishing a free trade agreement between China, Japan and Korea is quite essential for the three countries in the era of regional economic cooperation. Especially since the WTO Doha round stalled, the juxtaposition of a multilateral trade regime and regional trade arrangements, to a large extent, forms a significant trend in the current international economy. Beyond the spontaneous market force, the hindrances come from political dissent and national contradiction make the current prospects rather gloomy. This paper, considering China's current demands of domestic economic development and analysing the challenges confronting present FT A negotiations, argues why China is interested in and struggling to realize a China-JapanKorea free trade agreement (CJK FTA).
