Title: | Port governance for next-generation ports : the stakeholder management is pivotal for contributing to regional development | Authors: | Nguyen, Thuc Anh | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Maritime studies::Maritime management and business | Issue Date: | 2018 | Abstract: | Port and region demonstrate a symbiosis relationship. This research takes a closer look at the development of next-generation port and its impacts on regional development through the lens of port stakeholder management. Focusing on the Port of Singapore, this paper identifies the port stakeholders’ profile and interests, the port authority objectives and thereafter, moves on to derive the evolving roles of the port authority in managing a next-generation port. The results show a diverse range of responsibilities for port authority, which includes the traditional functionalities as well as marketing and cluster management functions. This finding shows that port authority activities are not restricted to any pre-specified port management models. The roles of port authority are also found to be in tandem with the characteristics of next-generation port, which focus on customer satisfaction, service excellence, service comprehensiveness, IT incubation and sustainable development. The future change in port stakeholders’ profile is also considered, which is found to be the inclusion of non-port industry such as IT into port stakeholder network. Port authority strategy in managing stakeholders’results in regional development through accommodating regional economic, social and environmental dimensions, knowledge sharing, and regional supply chain improvement. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/74582 | Schools: | School of Civil and Environmental Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
