Issue Date: | 2018 | Abstract: | In the recent years, Singapore’s logistics industry has been plagued with inefficiencies and labour crunch problems that could have contributed to its falling logistics performance. Furthermore, volume growth anticipated in Next Generation Port presents a need to explore the deployment of High Productivity Freight Vehicles to improve container haulage capability amidst labour crunch. From the literature review, it was established that Super B-Double, a variant of High Productivity Freight Vehicles, has achieve positive productivity results in Australia, which presents opportunities for its application in Singapore. Therefore, the objective of this study is to determine the feasibility of introducing Super B-Double between Pasir Panjang Terminal and Tuas Port to address the imminent problem in Singapore’s container haulage sector. Analysis in this study was made in the context of Singapore through field studies and interviews to ensure findings derived would be relevant to achieve the research objective. Findings from the study have shown that there are no factors that strongly negate the introduction of Super B- Double along the proposed route in the aspect of financial, legal and industry sentiments. However, challenges identified in the operational aspect pertaining to swept path performance and stopping sight distance have to be rectified before its deployment. Despite the additional cost to rectify the challenges, the present of operating costs saving of $19.76/TEU per round trip suggest that it would be cost effective if Super B-Double were deployed in the long run. As a whole, the research objective was achieved. It was established that it would be feasible to introduce Super B-Double in Singapore for container haulage operation along the proposed route. Nonetheless, it is proposed that consultation with the local authority to be made prior to Super B- Double’s deployment. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/75604 | Schools: | School of Civil and Environmental Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
