Title: | Investigation into energy sound plate configuration mechanism for noise shielding | Authors: | Leow, Samuel Long Hua | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering DRNTU::Engineering::Materials::Material testing and characterization |
Issue Date: | 2018 | Abstract: | As people’s tolerance for noise is declining, the appreciation of noise control starts to grow and demands for reducing noise problems continue to increase. In general noise is a problem that everyone faces in their daily lives. Some of the noises people face at home are loud noises from the vacuum cleaner, washing machine, dog barking or even baby crying. While people are commuting they may experience noise pollution such as screeching sound coming from vehicle and public transport. Thus, in many industries, in order to reduce people’s exposure to loud noises, they are required to put on earplugs while working. The purpose of this project is to test the effectiveness of soundproofing as well as predicting the sound transmission lost across different materials. This will assist people in selecting suitable combination of materials to cater for different frequencies and decibels, this helps to save cost and time to minimise noise problems. After recording down the sound transmission loss for each material in the first experiment from one to three layers. It is observed that it is possible to predict the results for two different combination of materials that are placed together for testing by using results from the first experiments. Moreover, this final year project will also list down the limitations that were faced in all the experiments conducted, which will give better insights for future projects. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/75633 | Schools: | School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
