Dr Ritu Jain

Dr Ritu Jain is senior lecturer in the Language and Communication Centre and Assistant Chair (Internships and Attachments) of the School of Humanities.

She is editor of Multilingual Singapore: Language Policies and Linguistic Realities
(2021) and has published in journals such as Language Policy and Current Issues in Language Planning. Ritu is coordinator of the South Asian Studies research cluster and a member of the NTU Medical Humanities and Communication in Healthcare @ NTU research clusters.

Dr Jain is also engaged in a variety of health related work and co-chairs the Agency for Care Effectiveness (MoH) consumer panel.
Ritu Jain is interested in aspects of Language Policy and Planning. She explores the impact of the language education policy among minority and transnational Indians in Singapore, and the impact of such processes on language maintenance and transmission on familial languages. She is PI of a Tier 1 multi-site research project investigating Inter-generational Language Transmission as well as of another assessing large scale shift to English among the Indians in Singapore.
Dr Jain also studies social and behavioural aspects of healthcare and is PI of the NCID Catalyst Grant: Stigma and discrimination as factors in late diagnosis and treatment presentation for people living with HIV. She is also engaged in processes of patient engagement in healthcare and contributes to global initiatives around Rare Disease Policies.
