Academic Profile

Hooi Den Huan is an Associate Professor at the Nanyang Business School’s Marketing division and was a past Director of NTU’s Nanyang Technopreneurship Center, former Head of the Marketing and Hospitality & Tourism Management department and a member of the university’s Blue Ribbon Commission. Schooled in St Michael's Institution in Ipoh, he completed his BSc (Hons) in Business Studies at the University of Bradford and his Phd at the University of Manchester.

Den’s professional qualifications include being a Chartered Marketer (CIMUK), Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) and Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) and he was a Visiting Scholar at the Sloan School of Management, MIT.

He has published in various journals and books, primarily academic-practitioner types, and presented papers in a number of conferences. Together with Philip Kotler and Hermawan Kartajaya, Den had co-authored 5 books, all of which became bestsellers –

2021 "Winning the Future - Marketing and Entrepreneurship in Harmony," was co-authored with Philip Kotler, to honour their co-author, Hermawan and to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of his firm, MarkPlus.

Apart from being an editorial board member of the Retail and Marketing Review, he is also an Academic Review Panel member for the Nanyang Business School's Asian Business Case Center.

Den plays a key role in the Asia Marketing Federation Foundation and the Asian Council for Small Business. He is an honorary consultant with the China Center for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT); a Babson TETA Fellow and an advisor for the School of Business Management, ITB, Indonesia.

He was conferred the following awards:
2019 - Honorary Fellowship by the Institute of Marketing Malaysia.
2018 - Honorary Fellowship by the Marketing Institute of Singapore
2014 - ICSB President award
2011 - Distinguished Global Leadership award, Pan Pacific Business Association
