Professor Shunsuke Chiba is Chair in School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB), a newly launched interdisciplinary school under College of Engineering and College of Science at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.
Professor Chiba is a synthetic organic chemist, who is interested in the development of fundamentally novel and practical synthetic reactions and catalysis that are useful for efficient supply of complex organic molecules of pharmaceutical interests. He completed his PhD in 2006 at the University of Tokyo, Department of Chemistry. In 2007, he embarked on his independent career as Assistant Professor at NTU Singapore in School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS), Division of Chemistry and Biological Chemistry (CBC), and was then promoted to Associate Professor and then Professor. He served as Head of CBC in 2012-2016 and 2021-2022, Acting co-Chair of CCEB on its foundation in April 2022, and sole Acting Chair of CCEB in April 2023. He was appointed Chair of CCEB in October 2023.
Professor Chiba is the recipient of Mukaiyama Award, Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award, GSK-SINC Award in Organic Chemistry, and Chemical Society of Japan Award for Young Chemists. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and of the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry.
