Jie Zhang is an Associate Professor of the School of Computer Engineering, Academic Fellow of the Institute of Asian Consumer Insight at NTU, and Associate of the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech). He obtained Ph.D. in Cheriton School of Computer Science from University of Waterloo, Canada, in 2009. During PhD study, he held the prestigious NSERC Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship rewarded for top PhD students across Canada. He was also the recipient of the Alumni Gold Medal at the 2009 Convocation Ceremony. The Gold Medal is awarded once a year to honour the top PhD graduate from the University of Waterloo. His papers have been published by top journals and conferences and won several best paper awards. Jie Zhang is also active in serving research communities.
Jie Zhang's research is in the general area of Artificial Intelligence and Multi-Agent Systems, and has been focused on trust management in open, large, dynamic and uncertain environments where users represented by software agents may be deceptive. In particular, he has been addressing the challenging robustness issue in trust management where trust systems become the target of attacks. He has also focused on designing tailored trust systems for emerging application domains (e.g. e-commerce, recommender systems, networking, etc.) to meet specific requirements imposed by the special characteristics of those different application domains. Another major direction of his research is in the design of multi-agent systems and mechanisms that create incentives for agents to behave honestly.
