Dr. Hyeokkoo Eric Kwon (권혁구, 權赫九) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Technology and Operations Management at Nanyang Business School (NBS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He is the Director of the Double Degree in Business and Computing program and serves on the Senate Committee on Research & Innovation. Prior to joining NBS in 2018, he earned a Ph.D. in Management Engineering with a specialization in Information Systems, as well as a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, both from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

His research interests primarily encompass mobile analytics for FinTech, digital healthcare, AdTech, and platforms and extend into broader domains such as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation. He has been closely working with a number of leading companies across a broad spectrum of industries—ranging from mobile marketing and telecom to banking, consumer/market research, healthcare, retail, CRM, and F&B—for business analytics-related projects and consulting work. Additionally, he serves as an advisor for the MUST Accelerator, a prominent Google-partnered tech startup accelerator in Korea, fostering connections between the innovation ecosystems of Singapore and Korea.

Building upon these industry-academic partnerships, he has contributed research articles to premier journals, including Information Systems Research (ISR), Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS), Journal of Operations Management (JOM), and Production and Operations Management (POM). His scholarly contributions have also been featured at prestigious academic conferences, including the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), Workshop on Information Systems and Economics (WISE), and Conference of Information Systems and Technology (CIST), where he undertakes various roles, such as track and session chair, associate editor, and program committee member.

In addition, he engages actively in the peer-review process, contributing his expertise to premier journals. Specifically, he is a member of the Editorial Review Board (ERB) of Information Systems Research (ISR) and serves as an associate editor for the Asia Pacific Journal of Information Systems (APJIS). He is also an active reviewer for esteemed journals, including Information Systems Research (ISR), Management Information Systems Quarterly (MISQ), and Management Science (MS).

He has been honored with the INFORMS Information Systems Society (ISS) Gordon B. Davis Young Scholar Award 2023, the highest honor for emerging scholars in the Information Systems field. Additionally, he won the Nanyang Research Award (Young Investigator), the university’s highest recognition for individuals under 39 who have made outstanding contributions to extending the frontiers of knowledge. He was also selected to attend the 7th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting on Economic Sciences as one of the 300 most qualified young economists worldwide, engaging in scientific exchanges with eighteen Nobel Laureates in Economics.

His academic achievements are further augmented by a series of honors and awards, including the Best Paper Award from the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and the Academy of Management (AOM), as well as multiple Research Excellence Awards from Nanyang Business School. Furthermore, his dedication to teaching has been equally acknowledged with multiple accolades, including the Teaching Excellence Award from Nanyang Business School and the Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award from Nanyang Technological University.
My research interests lie principally in identifying how new IS technologies affect consumers and firms and what the corresponding implications are for firms and governments. This topic is particularly important because corporate strategies and government policies that are implemented without a thorough understanding of complex and dynamically evolving technologies can significantly diminish business profit and social welfare. Specifically, my research has been heavily oriented toward the domain of mobile analytics for FinTech, digital healthcare, AdTech, and platforms and also extended into broader domains such as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation. I apply multiple quantitative methodologies, including econometric analyses, experiments, and hierarchical Bayesian models, with data collected from the firms with which I collaborate. I also employ analytical modeling approaches and agent-based simulation analyses to develop theoretical underpinnings for empirical validations or comprehend complex decision problems in a simplified structure.
