Danné Ojeda is an Associate Professor in the School of Art, Design, and Media, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore since 2008. Danne has longstanding experience in academia. She worked as Assistant Professor of Art History at the Higher Institute for the Arts/University of Arts in Havana (1996–2000), and as a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Letters, University of Havana. She was a UNESCO research award recipient at the Jan van Eyck Academy, Post-Academic Institute for Research and Production in Fine Art, Design and Theory, Maastricht, The Netherlands (2001–2003). She taught graphic design at the Modern International Art and Design Academy, Chongqing Technology and Business University, China (2006–2008).
In 2003, she founded d-file studio in Amsterdam—a platform for concept and project development in the areas of visual art, design and theory—from which she has mainly worked for and collaborated with cultural institutions that include the Singapore Art Museum (SAM), the Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore, the National Institute of Fine Arts, Mexico, among others.
Danné has published, lectured on and curated exhibitions related to contemporary art and design. She is the author of the book 'Diagonal. Essays on Contemporary Cuban Art' (Jan van Eyck Editions, Maastricht, 2003, NL), and the co-editor of the second to none anthology 'Discontinuous strokes. Critical anthology of art biennials in the Asia Pacific' —Translated from its Spanish original title: Trazos discontinuos. Antología crítica sobre las bienales de arte en Asia Pacífico— (Almenara Press, 2021, NL). She is also a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of Communication Design, Interdisciplinary and Graphic Design Research, edited by Routledge/Taylor & Francis.
Her design works have been internationally recognised with the Chicago Athenaeum—Good Design Awards (US), the German Design Award, German Design Council (DE), Red Dot Design Award: Communication Design (DE), iF International Forum Design Award (DE), the ‘Lorenzo Il Magnifico’ International Award— Florence Art/Design Biennale (IT), A’ (A-PRIME) Design Award (IT), the International Design Award, IDA (US), Art Books Wanted International Award (CZ, FR), among others. Her complete publication and exhibition design oeuvre commissioned by the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) was awarded Asia’s Top Designers Award, Singapore Design Award 2014.
