Professor, School of Materials Science & Engineering
Professor, School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences
Professor, School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology
Prof. Groves is the Founding Director of the Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS), which is a new Research Centre of Excellence (RCE) launched at NTU in 2022. Prof. Groves began his academic career at UC Berkeley where he led a research team pushing the limits of what is possible in the field of quantitative cell biology, emphasizing imaging and single molecule techniques in living cells.

Prof. Groves has been recognized by many awards, including being elected as investigator to the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in 2008. Prof. Groves is best known for his work drawing on strategies from the semiconductor fabrication industry to control and manipulate biomolecular and living cellular systems.

Prof. Groves is also a biotech entrepreneur. He founded his first company in 2000, which developed membrane microarray technology. He served as acting CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors for more than 10 years before successfully selling the company in 2014.
