Captain Tan holds appointment of Programme Director, Maritime Studies in CEE. He oversees the B Sc program in Maritime Studies, in close liaison with Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Ministry of Education (MOE) along with industry players, very much involved in consultancy work and conduct various courses as related to Maritime Studies Curriculum.

Prior to joining NTU, Capt Tan was the Managing Director, Hoe Leong Corporation Ltd heading a team of 50+ in their shipping business, managing and operating a fleet of clean product tankers in the region. He also took on the role as Head of Global QHSE at Winning Logistic Singapore, being responsible for safe Tug and Towage Operations at their Bauxite mines in Boke, Guinea SA, where he was actively involved in developing and implementing related Safe Working Management System.

His vast experiences in maritime industry with Neptune Orient Lines (NOL/APL) started from seafaring Cadet to Captain in Command at sea and includes total ship management and fleet operations at the Corporate Head Office in capacity of Senior Fleet Operations Manager.

Capt Tan holds a Master Mariner Class 1, Foreign Going COC (Certificate of Competency) and is a IQCS and ABS certified ISM Internal Auditor. He is also advisory Member to the Maritime Industry Advisory Committee (MIAC), Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) and ranks a 2nd Vice Commodore to the “World Maritime Heritage Society”.
