Dr Kong Pui Wah (Veni) is the Associate Dean for Research Grants Management at NIE’s Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning. She is also an Associate Professor at the Physical Education and Sports Science Academic Group.
She obtained her BEd (first class honour) in Physical Education and Sports Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She went on to study at Loughborough University in the United Kingdom for her MSc in Sports Science (Distinction) and PhD in Sports Biomechanics. Prior to joining NTU, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at El Paso and a visiting faculty member at the Emergency Responder Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Dr Kong teaches graduate, undergraduate and teacher-training courses related to biomechanics, anatomy and gymnastics. She received several teaching and mentoring awards, including MOE’s Outstanding Mentor Award, NTU’s Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award, and NIE’s Excellence in Teaching Commendation Award.
Her research interests include sports and clinical biomechanics, with applications in human performance and musculoskeletal health. In 2020, she was the recipient of the Fellow of International Society of Biomechanics in Sports (FISBS). She is currently an Associate Editor for Sports Biomechanics and Journal of Mechanics in Medicine and Biology. She also serves on the editorial board for Research in Sports Medicine, Journal of Exercise Science and Fitness, and World Scientific Annual Review of Biomechanics.

Dr Kong had led research projects on high-performance sports, gait, footwear, foot health, low back pain, massage, and sports injuries. She conducted laboratory experiments and field tests on well-trained athletes, school children, older adults, firefighters, paramedics, military personnel, and patients with various musculoskeletal heath conditions. She worked closely with sporting organisations, hospitals, government agencies and industrial partners to conduct inter-disciplinary research that make positive impact on the society.
She supervised a team of PhD, Master and undergraduate students at the NIE Sports Biomechanics Laboratory which has state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for biomechanical investigation of human movements. She has extensive research experience and technical expertise in kinematics, forces, muscle activation, strength, plantar pressure, muscle viscoelastic properties, and muscle architecture. Her research team has won many international and national awards, including those from the International Sports Engineering Association, British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, Sports Medicine Association Singapore, and the Asian Society of Sport Biomechanics.
