Dr Ying Zhu received an MSc in Applied statistics from University of Oxford and a PhD in statistics from University College London (UCL). She has also got industry experience at ACNielsen and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as statistician and senior analyst. Her principal expertise focuses on image classification, machine learning, multivariate classification of high-dimensional data and chemometrics. She has been working on developing these statistics methodologies with applications to early cancer diagnosis, Chinese herbal medicine discrimination, food authentication, as well as mathematics and statistics education. She has taken charge of several interdisciplinary research projects funded by NIE and MOE as PI and co-PI, as well as a number of external grants for international joint research projects. Her research works have been published in top-tier international journals and scholarly books. She serves as Associate Editor in chemometrics for the Journal of Near Infrared Spectroscopy, an elected member of the President's Advisory Committee of the International Council for NIR Spectroscopy, and a Board Committee member of Asian NIR Consortium.
