Controlled Keywords
Huichao received her Ph.D. in special education/early intervention from the University of Oregon in 2016. Prior to that, she worked as a licensed teacher and special education program director in China for five years. Her research focuses on evidence-based early childhood intervention and education practices in Singapore and other Asian contexts. Specifically, she has taken the lead role in research projects aimed at improving the early detection of developmental delays, building the capacity of adults in supporting child development, and evaluating inclusive innovations in preschools. She applies multiple research methods to address real life questions and seeks to document culturally sensitive and sustainable approaches to supporting all children, regardless of their profiles and backgrounds, to be active participants in the community.

In teaching, Huichao strives to inspire the next generation of teachers, leaders, and policy makers to develop the passion, confidence, and competencies to challenge the longstanding biases and stereotypes associated with children who need specialized supports and their families. In Singapore, Huichao has led the development and delivery of new courses based on these core beliefs.

Huichao serves local and broader communities by providing consultation services for government agencies, schools, and intervention programs in Singapore, China, and the United States. She collaborates with scholars from across the globe in multiple research projects.
