Dr. Jianfei Yang joined NTU MAE jointly with EEE as an assistant professor in September 2024. Previously, he was a visiting research fellow at Harvard University and the University of Tokyo in 2024, a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow at NTU from 2021 to 2023, and a senior research engineer at BEARS, the University of California Berkeley in 2021. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from NTU in 2021 with the Best Thesis Award and his B.Eng. degree from Sun Yat-Sen University in 2016.
His research area focuses on Physical AI and Embodied AI, studying how AI can enable physical systems—such as robotics, IoT, and machines—to perceive, understand, and interact with the physical world. To this end, his research includes multimodal human perception and modeling, robotics, AIoT systems, TinyML, and on-device LLMs.
Dr. Yang has been recognized in the Forbes Asia 30 Under 30 List in 2024 and the World’s Top 2% Scientists List compiled by Stanford University since 2022. He serves as an Associate Editor for two flag AI journals, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, and Neurocomputing. Dr. Yang is keen on participating AI and data challenges, winning 1st place in over 10 academic or industrial international AI challenges.
