Dr Chiam Ching Leen (Lynn) is Research Fellow at the Office of Education Research (OER), National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU). As a Research Fellow with joint appointments in Research Programmes Management Unit (RPMU) and Knowledge Mobilisation (KMb) Unit, she works along with education analysts, academics, administrators, and MOE colleagues to connect OER’s research knowledge and expertise with members of the education community. By facilitating partnerships and the flow of useful and actionable knowledge, the unit helps OER research inform decisions in research planning, policy and professional practice.

She is currently serving as member of School Partnership Unit, Research-Practice-Policy (RPP) Nexus Working Committee and ERFP Final Report Review Panel. She is also involved in facilitating multidisciplinary members of Special Interest Groups and Research Interest Groups at NIE. One of the groups she facilitates, the Multimodality Special Interest Groups won NIE Nexus Award 2020. “The NIE Nexus Award 2020 accords the highest recognition within the Institute to individuals or teams who have achieved outstanding collaboration in research. The award is to recognize individual or group contributions as well as to foster collaborative synergies and building capacities within NIE, to level up niche areas of research”.

Dr Chiam started her career in a fast-paced and dynamic treasury and markets department of a renowned bank before she served as a Senior Officer at NIE’s then Graduates Programmes Research Office (now known as the Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning). A teacher by training, she had also served briefly as Mathematics and ICT teacher in schools in Malaysia and Singapore. She now has more than 18 years of professional experience working with schools and post-secondary institutions in Malaysia and Singapore.

Dr Chiam has won numerous prestigious awards that include the Malaysia Australia Colombo Plan Commemoration scholarship, Singapore Millennium Foundation scholarship and the Lee Kong Chian Research Fellowship. She has diverse interests and enjoys exploring new areas of knowledge, particularly those that call for the integrated use of technology and those that help improve learning outcomes. Her current research interests include Knowledge Management and Mobilisation, 21st Century Competencies, Change Management, Organisational Learning, Learning Technologies, Social Media, Text and Web Mining & Analytics. Because of this wanderlust, she has explored the use of Scientific Notebook in the teaching of Integral Calculus, the use of Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) tools in promoting knowledge building and the use of analytic tools such as Clustify and Leximancer in mapping research. She has published in refereed international journals, and book chapters and presented at numerous national and international conferences including a presentation on “Mapping Research Using Text Analytic Tool” at the 2016 American Educational Research Association (AERA), the largest national interdisciplinary research association devoted to the scientific study of education and learning that was held from 8-12 April at Washington, D.C.
