Dr Leong Chan-Hoong
Head, Social Cohesion Research Programme, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies
Leong Chan-Hoong, PhD, is Senior Fellow and Head of Social Cohesion Research Programme at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University. Prior to this, he has held senior positions in various academic institutions and was most recently Head of Policy Practice in a global policy advisory firm (Verian Group). Chan-Hoong sits on the International Advisory Board at the Centre for Applied Cross-cultural Research, in Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He is a Fellow and elected board member of the International Academy for Intercultural Research (IAIR), where he chairs the Rae and Dan Landis Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award Committee. Chan-Hoong read a PhD (Psychology) from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand (2006), and M.Sc.'s on Statistics (2011) and Applied Geographic Information Systems (2019) from the NUS. His research focuses on diversity and inclusion, inter-racial relations, national narratives, and human-environment interactions.

Chan-Hoong has served as Consulting Editor for the International Journal of Intercultural Relations (IJIR 2013-15) and Asian Journal of Social Psychology (2018 - now), and Guest Editor for the IJIR 2013 and 2019 Special Issues “Multiculturalism: Beyond Ethnocultural Diversity & Contestations” and "Viewing intercultural adaptation & social inclusion through constructs of national identity", respectively. According to a bibliometric analysis published by IJIR in May 2023, Chan-Hoong is listed as one of the most prolific scholars for research in intercultural relations and acculturation (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijintrel.2023.101785).

Beyond academia, he is a member of the National Integration Council at the Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth, and the Community Advisory Panel at the Ministry of National Development. He is also the Singapore National Representative for the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR), where he chairs the Janet A Harkness Best Paper Award committee.
