I hold a PhD in Applied Developmental Sciences and Special Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My research focuses on supporting youth on the autism spectrum and/or intellectual disability in their transition to postsecondary settings (employment/higher education) with an emphasis on fostering self-determination. Additionally, I strongly believe in the importance of learning to learn, and seek to explore implementation of structured early literacy curriculum to build capacity for communication for students with higher support needs. I am committed to exploring participatory research approaches and partnering with educators and the disability community to advocate for and implement evidence-based practices and universal design.
Beyond my research, I have been actively involved in various community initiatives and collaborations with social services agencies (SSAs) in Singapore since 2013. These include the Purple Symphony, an orchestra featuring members with and without disabilities, and mentoring youth interested in joining the disability sector. These experiences deeply inform, motivate, and influence my academic work.
