Asst Prof Federico Magni
Assistant Professor, College of Business (Nanyang Business School) - Division of Leadership, Management & Organisation
After taking my Bachelor and Master degrees in Università Bocconi (Milan, Italy) and a brief experience in the industry, I took a PhD in Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (2016-2021), followed by a post-doc at the Chair of Work and Oraganizational Psychology, Department of Management, Technology and Economics of ETH Zürich (2021-2024) before joining NBS as Assistant Professor.
With my research I aim to better understand individual and interpersonal workplace dynamics. With the goal of empowering people to perform at the best of their possibilities, I have been conducting research in the following areas:

• Creativity: Being especially curious about how artistic and business logics can interact and synergise, I am studying how people and teams can be more creative in organisations and how creativity is evaluated.

• Artificial Intelligence (AI): Taking a humanistic approach to AI, I study how people interpret and react to the actions and work of AI, and how the usage of AI affects their behaviours at work.

• Uncertainty: Building on the idea the uncertainty is not necessarily a bad thing, I have been studying uncertainty regulation, and especially how the beliefs that people hold about uncertainty impact how they engage with it.

• Diversity: I am driven to help everybody be the best version of themselves and I believe in empowering individual differences rather than standardising one's personality to conform. At the same time, communication is key for working together. So, I study how different individuals and teams cooperate to reach their goals.
My research efforts aim to put people in the condition to realise their potential and operate at the best of their ability. In order to reach this goal, my research projects have branched out in different but overlapping directions linked to the future of work, including creativity, how people react to artificial intelligence in organisational contexts, uncertainty regulation, and diversity.

  • The future of work at the intersection of AI, creativity, uncertainty, and a changing workforce
