Assistant Professor, National Institute of Education - Natural Sciences & Science Education
Dr. Jina CHANG is an Assistant Professor in the Natural Sciences and Science Education (NSSE) Department at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU). She received her PhD in Science Education, with a specialisation in Physics, from Seoul National University in 2016. After completing her PhD, she taught science inquiry and science education theories to pre-service teachers and graduate students, including in-service teachers, at Seoul National University of Education. She also taught science to primary school students in South Korea from 2006 until before starting her post-doctoral research. She worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Curtin University in Australia (2018-2019) and as a post-doctoral fellow at NIE (2022-2023). Dr. Chang then joined NIE/NTU as an Assistant Professor in 2024.

Dr. Chang’s research primarily focuses on enhancing science practices through innovative pedagogies, particularly multimodal interaction and advanced technologies. Her work on multimodal interaction explores how to support students in constructing scientific ideas through various forms of interaction, such as textual, verbal, pictorial, and gestural. In terms of advanced technologies, she has investigated how to effectively integrate practices of science with Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Recently, her research has expanded to focus on STEM inquiry, combining an inquiry-based approach with STEM education.
