Abstract: A template-free strategy is exploited to bottom-up synthesize yolk–shell vanadium oxide through a two-step spontaneous assembly of hydrolytically formed subunits in a one-pot process. The unique structured vanadium pentoxide exhibits excellent cathode performance for lithium ion batteries.
