With regards to the Chinese community of Malaysia, it has always been hard to draw a clear line between civilness and ethnicity when it comes to the notion of citizenship. However, it is essential to differentiate the both of them. As of lately, there has been an escalation in the trend of Malaysian Chinese actively transcending communalism due to a rise in civic-awareness and hence, there has been a reconfiguration of the nature of citizenship. The alteration is crucial to the political development in Malaysia and definitely worth looking into. Besides studying the above-mentioned phenomenon, a case-study of Malaysian social activist, Dr. Wong Chin-Huat will also be conducted. Having crossed the ethnic boundary, he is a firm proposer of increased civic awareness amongst Malaysians. Furthermore, Dr. Wong recognizes the need for Chinese Education in Malaysia to transcend ethnic cleavages and the need for a stronger civil society presence within the nation.
