Floating box-type breakwaters are frequently used for small harbours and marinas. This paper reports a comparative experimental study of the performance of a rectangular floating breakwater with and without slotted barriers. Experimental results showed that the slotted barriers attached to the bottom of a floating box-type breakwater could improve the transmission performance without increasing both the heave and surge motion responses. It was also found that the slotted barriers could reduce the pitch motion responses for shorter waves and increase the pitch motion responses for longer waves.en_US
