      Abstract
This chapter explores the administrative aspects of developing and maintaining a simulated patient (SP) programme. It describes some of the important processes in starting and maintaining an SP programme. The key considerations of training and quality assurance of SP performance are discussed from a management perspective. If SPs are required to give detailed verbal feedback then their capacity to provide feedback should be taken into account. Training sessions can emphasize the professional standards expected from the SPs, such as punctuality, commitment and communication with SP programme staff. Volunteer SPs need to have the same understanding of the programme as paid SPs and therefore should undertake the same selection process and training to maintain quality assurance. Clear terms and agreement, governance and quality processes, coupled with ongoing training and development, will help maintain high standards and ensure that the SP programme continues to meet the educational needs of the institution.
