Noise-Like Pulses Evolution in Mode-Locked Fibre Lasers

Soliton formation of mode-locked doped fibre lasers caused by balanced interactions between nonlinear effects and dispersions has recently been investigated extensively. In this project, we explored and simulated a special case that the formed soliton’s pulse width is so narrow that the spectral bandwidth of rare earth gain profile is comparable with the soliton spectrum bandwidth. Such case is unstable in laser cavity because of saturable absorber which is compulsory for mode locking to self-start. Soliton will then collapse and “noise-like” pulses will be formed consequently.
