Major (NS) Wong became the newly-elected president of the Institute of Printing (IOP) on 23 March 2001. He felt that the IOP - the Asia Pacific's professional body for printers and those in related trades - could contribute more than it was doing to the Singapore printing industry, especially in terms of manpower skills development. Although Major (NS) Wong had vaguely identified vocational training as a niche service that the IOP could provide leadership in, he also found himself wondering if the IOP might not play other roles within the industry. As the new executive committee was scheduled to meet in a month's time, Major Wong needed to firm up his strategies fast.en
