Title: | Arts journalism in Singapore : a study of arts coverage in the Straits Times from 1995 to 2003. | Authors: | Cheong, Li Wei. Ow, Ying Jun. Lee, Pereira Marcel. |
Keywords: | DRNTU::Social sciences::Journalism::Reporting on arts | Issue Date: | 2005 | Abstract: | This exploratory study aims to examine how the press juggles government expectations and commercial pressures in the context of arts coverage. To achieve this, a content analysis of The Straits Times Life!’s arts coverage from 1995 to 2003 was conducted, together with a series of in-depth interviews with arts reporters and Life! editors. Results showed that despite the increased arts activity, arts coverage in Life! declined. Arts coverage was also not reflective or responsive to the changes in the arts industry, due to commercial reasons. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/1041 | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
