Issue Date: 1999
Abstract: This research aims to study the effects of real exchange rate devaluation on the export performance of China. This study was motivated by the speculation that the Asian economic crisis could be due to the exchange rate reforms implemented by China in 1994, which adversely affected other Asian economies while boosting China's export competitiveness. This study uses a fixed effects model using panel data for 28 Chinese provinces with a time series dimension that spans from period 1988 to 1996.
