Abstract: This project aims to explore whether the "succession" of the manufacturing sector by the service sector will lead to the "hollowing out of manufacturing" in the case of Singapore. The Singapore government's role in restoring manufacturers' competitiveness is examined using the Business Cost Competitiveness Index (BCCI). This study has shown that there are many reasons why the manufacturing sector should and would continue to be the engine of growth of Singapore.
