Abstract: The purpose of this study is to discover and examine the language choice, use and attitudes of Chinese SAB students in NTU, to predict the likely future direction of the language shift based, to examine the following hypotheses: English has economic value, Singaporeans still retain the colonial mentality; they therefore prefer imported “goods” including the English language, the Singapore government’s language campaigns have an impact on language choice and English is a superior language.
