Abstract: The development of chip is about to reach its bottleneck with current technology. With the diminishing size of transistors, the number of transistors that can be integrated on chip increases by leaps and bounds. Without knowingly, we could easily carry more than 2 billions transistors with us everyday. However, the resistance of metal wires is the limiting factor as the resistance increases with the length of metal wires used in circuit. The high power consumption is also a roadblock on the development of chip. Silicon photonics seems to be a viable solution for this problem. [Peer Assessment Review]
