Abstract: A study on the effect of hydraulic retention time on membrane bioreactor system with prolonged sludge retention time was carried out. A submerged tubular ceramic membrane bioreactor (MBR) in laboratory scale, with a prolonged sludge retention time (SRT) of 200 days, was applied to reduce substantially the amount of disposed sludge. The MBR system was operated for 6 Runs, differentiated by hydraulic retention time (HRT).
