Pile installation will lead to vertical and horizontal soil movements around the pile. The vertical soil movements will cause heave of piles which have already been installed in the vicinity. As a result, tensile force may be induced in the existing piles. The horizontal soil movements induced by pile installation may also cause the deflection of existing piles and induce bending moments in such piles.en_US
