Abstract: The phenomenal growth rate in track densities for magnetic hard disk drive system poses great challenges to servo engineers. Precise positioning of the read/write heads in a magnetic hard disk is essential to ensure the integrity of the data recorded or read from the disk. As track density increases and signal to noise ratio falls, it has become increasingly difficult to obtain precise position information.
