Abstract: Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMSs) have been developed over the last two decades to help manufacturing industries moving towards the goal of flexibility. Scheduling in FMSs differs from that in conventional job shops because of the availability of alternative manufacturing resources resulting in routing flexibility. However, unpredictable events such as machine breakdowns or due date changes often happen in the system. Hence, the generation of new schedule, or rescheduling, is necessary when such dynamic events occur.
