Abstract: The types of information transmitted in a communication network and their bandwidth requirements have become more varied nowadays. They can be pictures and video with bandwidth requirements of a few tens to few thousands kilobits per second, in addition to the conventional types of information like voice or data with bandwidth requirements of a few kilobits per second. Thus, Asynchronous Transfer Mode or ATM technology has been developed to transmit these various types of information.
