Abstract: The advancement of computer technology and networking has transformed the industry demand of a Remote Terminal Unit (RTU). The RTU is no longer a simple embedded 8-bit microcontroller based system. The SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) industry is increasingly demanding in the capability of the RTU. The operational concept of a RTU has changed from a simple system of monitoring field data points to a sophisticated real time system executing control algorithms.
