Abstract: The objective of this researchis-to develop a compact and economical Q-switched diode-pumped Nd:YV04 laser using GaAs as the saturable absorber. Having discovered that the GaAs could also be used as an output coupler, an innovative design is proposed for the research. Accordingly, instead of using the GaAs as a saturable absorber only, it is also used both as a saturable absorber and output coupler.
