From the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), 15 selected news reports about China-US trade war from Lianhe Zaobao, People's Daily and The New York Times were analyzed both quantitively and qualitatively based on Fairclough's three-dimensional model and Halliday’s systemic functional grammar. In the analysis of the characteristics of the descriptive and interpretative styles of the news reports, the lexical choices, transitivity, news sources and reporting modes were discussed. The results show that there are different characteristics of language use and standpoints of the news reports from each country. The study also found that economic and social factors had an impact on the differences of the characteristics mentioned above. All in all, this paper achieved the goal of revealing social factors and the hidden ideology of news discourses in Singapore, China and the United States. It is hoped that this study can help readers to enhance their capability in appreciating news discourses to avoid being incited or misled by news reports.||URI:||https://hdl.handle.net/10356/137314||Fulltext Permission:||restricted||Fulltext Availability:||With Fulltext|
