Abstract: The objective of this final year project is to develop and assemble a radar system for root detection. The report covers the author’s contribution to the project for the academic year 2019/2020. First of all, the report begins with understanding the equipment that will be used in the experiments for the radar such as the vector network analyser. Experiments were done in the process of learning and will be described subsequently. Then, there is the re-creation of the testbed for further experiments for root detection. Throughout the experimentation, errors and mistakes were found and is recorded and documented in the report. Finally, after ironing out the mistakes and error, more experiments were done to find the deepest depth that the radar can penetrate to. Thereafter, the data collected from the experiments were processed and the results will be shown. The report provides an overview of the experimental setup and the results of experiments. In addition to results, discussion on the failure or misstep in the process of the experiment was included. In the end, the report makes a list of recommendations for future research.
