Abstract: This study aimed to find alternative teaching strategies to actively involve special needs pupils in reading. A peer tutoring intervention was implemented to assess the reading achievement of 16 pupils who were diagnosed as having mild mental retardation. A pretest-posttest control group comparison design was used.
