Title: | Bending of soft beams : theory and experiments | Authors: | Chua, Jie Lun | Keywords: | Engineering::Mechanical engineering | Issue Date: | 2020 | Publisher: | Nanyang Technological University | Abstract: | This final year project aims to investigate the deflection rate of a soft material when it is subjected to a 4-point loading. For this project, the author would only consider pure bending as the only factor that would lead to the bending of the beam. A lot of experiments would be conducted to collect data to analyse the factors that might contribute to the change in deflection rate. In this project, the author was tasked to set up suitable methods to allow such study to be conducted. the methods have to ensure that the test piece is subjected only to pure bending moment. The use of free body diagrams as well as knowledge that were gained from taking the module Mechanics of Materials back previously would prove useful to the author for this project. After which, the data collected would be compared with the mathematical model that had been used in a previous article relating to a non-elastic elastic beam under finite deformation. | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/10356/141272 | Schools: | School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
