Abstract: This Final Year Project explored on thermal relaxation of residual stresses induced by Laser Shock Peening. Laser Shock Peening as a mechanical process improves material properties such as hardness, fatigue strength and life. The residual stresses however can be affected by service environments causing it to recede. This would turn disadvantageous for operations of high stress or elevated temperature nature. Hence, this project studied residual stress characterization of Laser Shock Peening on Al6061-T6 and thermal relaxation of its induced residual stresses.
