Abstract: First, this dissertation attempts to clarify the definition of piracy and sea robbery according to international law perspectives, in the context of the geographical limitations of the Straits of Malacca and Malaysian waters. Second, to look at recent trends, threats and responses of piracy and sea robbery attacks in the Straits of Malacca and Malaysian waters. Lastly, to look at Malaysia’s perspectives and the factors that shaped Malaysia’s attitudes towards maritime security issues. Therefore, this dissertation will discuss further on this piracy and sea robbery issues in Malaysia perspective.
