Abstract: There is an increasing trend to enhance and refine additive manufacturing (AM) technology for the intention of producing end-user products. As such, research in AM has always been focused on investigating parameters and factors that affect crucial quality indicators such as mechanical strength and surface finishing. This project focuses on the effect of process parameters and the microstructure of selective laser melted (SLM) steel and attempts to investigate the link between surface micro-characteristics and process parameters.
